Homozygous null mice die shortly after implantation. Embryos are developmentally retarded and disorganized, the inner cell mass is small and trophoblasts stop endocycling. Ablation in keratinocytes during fetal development, but not in adult keratinocytes, results in impaired skin barrier function.
