Mice homozygous for a targeted mutation display no abnormal phenotype. Mice homozygous for a different knock-out allele exhibit background sensitive reduction in fertility due to reduced sperm motility and irregular estrous cycle and impairment in glucose tolerance due to reduced insulin levels.
