Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) hemizygous for a gene trap allele show a specific loss of differentiation potential toward the endodermal lineage and a severe defect in cardiomyocyte differentiation. Mutant ESCs differentiated into embryoid bodies fail to cavitate.
