Male homozygotes for targeted null mutations exhibit small testes but are fertile. Mutant kidneys have fewer glomeruli and dilated renal tubules, but function normally. Mice homozygous for a gene trap allele or spontaneous mutation have open eyelids at birth, corneal abnormalities and inflammation.
