Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show normal ventilatory responses to hypoxia. Mice homozygous for a reporter allele show loss of rapidly desensitizing ATP-gated cation currents in dorsal root ganglion neurons, reduced formalin-evoked pain behavior, and enhanced thermal hyperalgesia.
