Homozygous disruption of this gene leads to both male and female infertility. Spermatogenesis terminates in postmeiotic germ cells with no sperm seen in the epididymis and a marked increase of apoptosis during meiosis. Adult females exhibit a few growingfollicles and no corpora lutea.
