Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit embryonic lethality before E9.5. Mice homozygous for a different knock-out allele are embryonic lethal, while heterozygotes display impaired mitochondrial biogenesis and decreased liver degeneration following partial hepatectomy or acute liver injury.
