Mice lacking this gene exhibit defective inhibition of serum apatite formation, sometimes causing muscle calcification. They are resistant to weight gain on a high-fat diet and have increased insulin sensitivity and glucose clearance and reduced fasting plasma free fatty acids and triglycerides.
