When fed an atherogenic diet, mice homozygous for a gene trapped allele show markedly lower VLDL/LDL cholesterol and serum apoB levels, higher cellular oxidative stress, enhanced macrophage immunoreactivity and LDL-induced monocyte chemotaxis, and largeratheromatous lesions than wild-type mice.
