Homozygotes for a null allele show prenatal and postnatal lethality. Homozygotes for a different null allele are viable but show altered lipid and bile acid metabolism, impaired mitochondrial respiration, and increased susceptibility to diet-induced atherosclerosis, gallstone formation, and obesity.
