Homozygous null mice show defective CTL immunity and clearance of LCMV. Following infection with LCMV or L. monocytogenes, mutant CTLs display a breakdown of cytotoxic granule integrity, increased cytoplasmic granzyme B, and reduced survival due to increased granzyme B-mediated apoptosis.
