Homozygous null embryos do not survive and have mesodermal segments with no cranio-caudal polarity and no epithelial somites develop; caudal sclerotome halves do not condense, the pattern. Mice heterozygous for a knock-out or ENU allele exhibit abnormal metabolic and immunological phenotypes.
