Allele
Type: | |
Spontaneous |
|
Mutation: | |
Transposon insertion |
| |
|
Mutation details: This allele is the result of a 1 kb intracisternal A particle (IAP) transposon insertion. Genomic Southern hybridization analysis places the insertion just upstream of exon 2. (J:19977)

Notes |
The Avy allele arose spontaneously in the C3H/HeJ strain. Heterozygotes (Aiy/a) are sootier than Ay/a and are often indistinguishable from A/a. They do not have the mottling often observed in Avy/a. Homozygotes are viable, as are Avy/Ay and Aiy/Avy (J:13441).
