Mcph1tm1.2Kali/Mcph1tm1.2Kali males are infertile and exhibit meiotic defects

mortality/aging
• when exposed to 7 Gy ionizing radiation, all mice die within 9 days, where 80% of wild-type mice survive
• birth rate is lower than expected, no time of lethality provided

reproductive system
• at P56, absence of spermatids in seminiferous tubules
• fewer spermatocytes are produced in seminiferous tubules
• increase in TUNEL+ cells in tubules
• significantly smaller and thinner than those of wild-type at P28
• testes are consistently smaller especially after 3-weeks of age
• interstitial initiation of synapsis with asynapsis on either side of the contact
• incomplete, dashed-line shape bivalents in many homologs during zygotene or zygotene/pachytene
• double-strand breaks cannot be appropriately repaired
• meiotic dysregulation at P14, P21, and P56, spermatocytes arrest prior to the pachytene stage
• increase in zygotene spermatocytes and a complete absence of postmeitotic cells

endocrine/exocrine glands
• significantly smaller and thinner than those of wild-type at P28
• testes are consistently smaller especially after 3-weeks of age

cellular
• at P56, absence of spermatids in seminiferous tubules
• fewer spermatocytes are produced in seminiferous tubules
• MEFs are more sensitive to ionizing radiation, as measure by number of cells surviving after 6 days
• increase in TUNEL+ cells in tubules
• increased chromosomal breakage in MEFs 3 and 20 hrs after ionizing radiation treatment

growth/size/body
• at P56 weight is only 80% of wild-type

immune system
• increase in number of chromosomal aberrations in T cells

hematopoietic system
• increase in number of chromosomal aberrations in T cells

homeostasis/metabolism
• when exposed to 7 Gy ionizing radiation, all mice die within 9 days, where 80% of wild-type mice survive
