Homozygous mice display a decreased lifespan, cachexia, increased blood urea nitrogen, proteinuria, kidney inflammation, and a hyperdistended and neurogenic urinary bladder. Mice homozygous for a second null mutation display reduced chemical pain persistence responses but are otherwise healthy.
