Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit neonatal lethality, absent gastric milk in neonates, postnatal growth retardation, sensory-motor deficits and limb grapsing. Mice homozygous for a conditional allele exhibit similar phenotypes with near complete loss of CA3 neurons.
