    Revised gene symbols: D12Nyu1, D12Nyu2, D12Nyu3, D12Nyu4, D12Nyu5, Mpmv24, Xmmv21 and Xmmv25 (formerly D12-1, D12-2, D12-3, D12-4, D12-5, Env-34, Env-21 and Env-25 respectively). Xmmv21 and Xmmv25 reported in this paper as unknown have subsequently beenshown to map to Chromosome 16 and Chromosome 12 respectively.

    Somatic cell hybrids were from fusion of Chinese hamster cell line E36 with mouse MethA cells. Hybrids MAE28, containing mouse Chromosomes 12 + X, and MAE32, containing mouse Chromosomes 16 + X, were the two lines analyzed. Hybrid MAE28 was positive for D12Nyu2, Fos, and Serpina1, while MAE32 was negative for each of these loci showing that they map to Chromosome 12.
