  Human tryosinase cDNA probe Pme134 was used on Southern blots with EcoRI digested DNA from newborn mice homozygous or heterozygous for lethal albino deletions Tyr^c-3H and Tyr^c-14Cos. Three bands (4.5, 12.0, 14.5 kb) were present in normal Tyr^c-ch/Tyr^c-ch mice, half the hybridization intensity was present in heterozygotes, and no hybridization was detected in homozygotes for lethal albino deletions. A mouse genomic fragment, PTY-1, corresponding to the 4.5 EcoRI band also mapped at or near the albino Tyr^c locus.
