Notes

Parental strain BALB/cJ exhibits increased cerebellar Gpd1 mRNA expression and enzyme stability compared to parental strain C57BL/6J. Using a series of CXB (C=BALB/cJ; B=C57BL/6J) recombinant inbred (RI) strains, a locus named Gdcr1 (glycerolphosphate dehydrogenase regulator 1) affecting cerebellar Gpd1 mRNA expression mapped to mouse Chromosome 15 and shows linkage with the Gpd1 structural gene at 56.8 cM. The BALB/cJ-derived allele of Gdcr1 acts in cis by preferentially increasing mRNA expression of the BALB/cJ allele of Gpd1.

A second unlinked locus named Gdcr2 (glycerolphosphate dehydrogenase regulator 2) affects cerebellar Gpd1 expression from either allele. CXB RI strain analysis and analysis of CXB x (CXB x B6.CAST)F1 backcross animals shows thatGdcr2 is not linked to Gpd1 or Gdcr1 on chromosome 15. The strain distribution pattern of Gdcr2 suggests possible linkage to Es1 (43 cM) on chromosome 8, Glb1 (66 cM) on chromosome 9, H18 (74.5 cM) on chromosome 4, or H35 on chromosome 1.
