The Raz locus was mapped to between 1 cM and 24 cM on mouse Chromosome 5 in a (C3.D2-Raz x C57BL/6)F1 x C57BL/6 backcross. The order of markers is given as follows:

    cent - D5Mit346 - Raz - D5Mit391 - D5Mit7 - D5Mit138 - tel

Extensive fine mapping was performed on a population of 553 (C3.D2-Raz x BALB/c)F1 x C3H/HeJ backcross animals. Raz localized to a 16 cM region between D5Mit348 (8 cM) and D5Mit354 (24 cM). This region does not undergo recombination suggesting Raz is located within an inverted segment of DNA. Presence of an inversion was confirmed and the inversion breakpoints were determined to be between D5Mit346 (1 cM) and D5Mit348 (8 cM) at the proximal end and between D5Mit354 (24 cM) and D5Mit353 (24 cM) at the distal end.
