Notes
  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 111 male and 96 female NZO/HlBom x (SJL/NBom x NZO/HlBom)F1 backcross animals to identify QTLs associated with susceptibility to diabetes. Parental strain NZO is obese and susceptible to diabetes whereas parental strain SJL is lean and diabetes resistant. 92 polymorphic markers were screened.

A locus associated with diabetes-related traits mapped to mouse Chromosome 4 between D4Mit278 (55.2 cM) and D4Mit232 (71 cM). This locus was named Nidds. Animals heterozygous at Nidds exhibit hyperglycemia, hypoinsulinemia, and reduced body weight.
