  The authors analysed the Muc5b sequence and identified that it was located near the Muc5ac gene on the BAC sequences AC020817 and AC020794. The order of the genes was found to be 5'- Muc5ac - 3' - 5'- Muc5b - 3'. The 5' end of Muc5b was found to be about 25kb downstream of th 3' end of Muc5ac. Muc5ac had previously been mapped to Chromosome 7. This order was conserved in the human sequence as well.
