    Since the Opj mutation and the Crygs gene had been mapped to Chromosome 16, the authors analyzed the sequence of the Crygs gene in Opj mutant mice. A single base change that replaced a phenylalanine to serine was identified in the N-terminal domain. Biochemical studies showed that the mutant protein has decreased solubility and associated loss of secondary structure at physiological temperatures.
