The Sox10Dom mutation was initally determined to be an alteration in the C57BL/6J allele of a (C57BL/6J x C3HeB/FeJLea-a)F1 background. To generate a detailed map of the region, the authors performed linkage disquilibrium mapping with polymorphic markers in pedigrees of mice generated during the construction of Sox10Dom/+ congenic lines on C57BL/6J and C3HeB/FeJLea-a backgrounds. Evaluation of haplotypes from construction of the Sox10Dom congenic line on the C3H background revealed that the C57BL/6J alleles of markers proximal to D15Mit2 and D15Mit31 were replaced by C3H alleles. In contrast, in the Sox10Dom congenic line on the C57BL/6J background, the C3H allele of markers distal to D15Mit68 were replaced by C57BL/6J alleles at those loci. The SoxDom critical interval was narrowed to a ~2 cM region between D15Mit68 and D15Mit2.
