| Caption | Gcn1em1(IMPC)J/Gcn1em1(IMPC)J (Gcn1-/-) embryos are always the smallest in their litters beginning at E7.5. By E8.5 Gcn1-/- are delayed compared with control littermates. At E9.5 all Gcn1-/- embryos remain unturned or display incomplete turning. When analyzable, the yolk sac is not appropriately vascularized. Mutants always have an abnormal head shape and this is often accompanied by improper cranial neural tube closure. By E10.5 more than half of the embryos are dying/undergoing resorption. The other half display turning defects, have severe cardiac defects and an open cranial neural tube. A single mutant has turned and appears like a normal E10.5 embryo. | ||||
