Caption Arpc1aem1(IMPC)J/Arpc1aem1(IMPC)J (-/-) embryos are normal at E8.5. By E9.5 a minority are indistinguishable from littermates but most have abnormal head shape, a minority with incomplete closure of the cranial neural tube. Branchial arch/pouch abnormalities are apparent in almost half of the E9.5 mutants. Approximately half have abnormal cardiac development (including that presented here) and this is often accompanied by yolk sac defects. By E10.5 the mutants are either dying or severely dysmorphic such as that pictured here.
