Caption Enhanced lymphoid cell infiltration in tissues from the Peli1tm1.1Arte/Peli1tm1.1Arte (F397A) mice. Sections were prepared from the indicated tissues of mutant and wild-type (WT) mice aged six months and stained with haematoxylin and eosin. The data show representative micrographs of the following tissues and are from one experiment with six mice per genotype. The Mandibular lymph nodes, show marked enlargement of one node in a mutant mouse compared to the same nodes in a WT mouse. The normal architecture in the lymph node is retained in the mutant mouse but the paracortex is particularly prominent. Lymph nodes in both sections are surrounded by salivary gland tissue. Bar = 500 um. The Submandibular salivary gland shows extensive, coalescing lymphoid infiltrates around convoluted ducts of the mutant mouse. The milder infiltrates seen in the section from the WT mouse are a common finding, particularly in females. Bar = 500 um. The liver shows a large perivascular nodular lymphoid infiltrate in the parenchyma; such tissue is not seen in the liver of the WT mice. Bar = 500 um. The lung shows marked expansion of the peribronchiolar lymphoid tissue in the mutant mice and includes plasma cells. The corresponding section of the wild type mouse shows the expected, small amount. Bar = 200 um. The kidney of the mutant mouse shows large aggregates of lymphoid cells around a cortical artery and vein with enlargement and hypercellularity of an adjacent glomerulus (arrow). A normal glomerulus is arrowed in a similar area of a section from a WT mouse. Bar = 200 um. The pancreas, shows marked expansion of periductal stromal tissue in the mutant mouse with sheets of lymphoid cells including prominent plasma cells. No lymphoid tissue was found at similar sites in the corresponding section from WT mice. Bar = 200 um.
