At E8.5, all Tedc2^em1(IMPC)J/Tedc2^em1(IMPC)J (Tedc2-/-) mutants analyzed lack an appropriately patterned ventral neural tube as indicated by the absence of FoxA2 in the floorplate. Furthermore the notochord is absent in portions of the embryo. When the notochord is absent, the gut tube is abnormally proximal to the neural tube as in the middle section of the mutant presented.
