| Caption | Slc30a9em1(IMPC)Bay/Slc30a9em1(IMPC)Bay (Slc30a9-/-) embryos at E8.5 are always smaller than their control littermates. Although only a minority of Slc30a9-/- are categorized as delayed at E8.5 most display an abnormal allantois that is often blebby at the tip and irregularly shaped (see others below). The head shape is sometimes abnormal. By E9.5 all Slc30a9-/- embryos are delayed, all have an abnormal head shape and abnormal yolk sacs, most have failed to close their cranial neural tube and all are unturned. In the majority of E9.5 Slc30a9-/- embryos, instead of forming a functional connection with the chorion (as in the example provided), the allantois has balled up at the tip of the tail. | ||||
