At E9.5, Pgm1^em1(IMPC)J/Pgm1^em1(IMPC)J (Pgm1-/-) placentas display multiple labyrinth zone (LZ) defects compared to controls. In Pgm1-/- placentas, the Tfeb+ labyrinth trophoblast layer is markedly reduced and Gcm1+ chorioallantoic branching is impaired compared to controls. At E10.5, Pgm1-/- placentas display multiple LZ defects compared to controls. The Tfeb+ labyrinth trophoblast layer is still markedly reduced. Chorioallantoic branching is nearly absent, as Gcm1 expression is sparse and remains at the chorioallantoic interface.
