Early E8.5 Pgm1^em1(IMPC)J/Pgm1^em1(IMPC)J (Pgm1-/-) embryos are mainly normal although a minority are delayed and sometimes have asymmetric anterior neural tube. By E9.5 almost all Pgm1-/- display abnormal heart morphology, predominantly enlarged hearts and abnormal branchial arches. Yolk sacs were not assessed. By E10.5 all embryos demonstrate a precipitous decline and are grossly abnormal (as shown) and dying.
