At E9.5, Gmeb2^em1(IMPC)J/Gmeb2^em1(IMPC)J (Gmeb2-/-) placentas exhibit a diminished Tpbpa+ spongiotrophoblast layer, abnormal chorioallantoic interface (limited interface expansion), and multiple labyrinth zone defects in the KO compared to controls. The Tfeb+ region fails to expand, remaining a thin layer, and Gcm1+ chorioallantoic branching is severely impaired.
