(B) In cross section the profile of cochlear cell types and overlying tectorial membrane are visible. (C) Surface preparations provide a view of the apical surface of cochlear cells without the tectorial membrane. The relative position and organization of cochlear cells in these two views are illustrated using inner hair cells (IHCs) and outer hair cells (OHCs) for reference.
