Image
Caption Bright field images of Sox10 in situ hybridization stained E9.5-10.5 (a) wild-type and (b) Kdrorv/Kdrorv (orvieto) embryos. Arrowheads and arrows, respectively point to ectopic Sox10 positive ganglia and agenesis or hypoplasia of the neural crest cell component of the cranial ganglia. Embryos exhibit a failure of cranial neural crest cell colonization of the second pharyngeal arch. Rhombomere 3-5 derived neural crest cells fail to migrate beyond the proximal extent of the second pharyngeal arch. Caudal to the otic vesicle there is a loss of migrating neural crest cells as evidenced by the absence of Sox10 positive cells. Abbreviations: f, facioacoustic/vestibule cochlear; g, glossopharyngeal; tg, trigeminal; v. vagal.
