C-F: Airspace enlargement in mutants is associated with an abnormal pattern of elastin deposition in which elastin fibers look fragmented (Orcein staining; (D) and (F) show high magnification of areas depicted by arrowheads in (C) and (E) respectively). G: Alveolar macrophages (black arrow) identified by MAC3 staining appeared more abundant in scattered regions of mutant lungs. Bars in (A) and (D) represent 150 um and 20 um respectively.
