Caption Corresponding horizontal sections of E12.5 wild-type (c-jun+/+, A,C,E and G) and Juntm1Wag/Juntm1Wag (c-jun-/-, B,D,F and H) were analyzed for the presence of neural crest cells by double-label immunofluorescence microscopy using a monoclonal mouse antibody against teh neural crest cell protein Cx 43 (green) and polyclonal antibodies agaomst desmin (red). The micrographs show corresponding sections of wild-type (A,C,E and G) and mutant (B,D,F and H) littermates (two wild-type, one heterozygote, and four mutant fetuses were analyzed). Cx43 positive cells were visible in the outflow tract of wild-type and mutant fetuses in the peritracheal mesenchyme (arrows in C and D) and the mesenchyme in vicinity of the spinal cord (arrows in E and F). For control, Cx 43 immunoreactivity is shown in the trabeculae carnea of the ventricles (G and H). Note the thinner wall of the ventricles in mutant hearts (H). pt, pulmoary trunk; ta, truncus arteriosus; vw, ventricle wall; tr, trachea; oe, oesphaagus; sc, spinal cord; tc, trabeculae carneae. Bars, 50 um.
