Caption The coronal section shows the medial habenula at the point of its greatest lateral extent. The dorsal third ventricle is seen at the center of each section. In +/+ wild-type mice, Pou4f1 immunoreactive neurons are present at high density in the medial habenula and at lower density in the lateral habenula (A). In Pou4f1tm1Nat/Pou4f1tm1Nat mice, Pou4f1 immunoreactivity is absent (B). Cresyl violet staining shows a loss of neurons in the medial labenula in homozygous mice ( C & D).
