A and B are parasagittal sections of the branchial region of an E10.5 embryo showing the maxillary (x) and mandibular (d) processes of the first branchial arch. A and C are bright field views, B and D are dark field views of adjacent sections respectively. In A and B the epithelial thickening indicating the origin of the first mandibular molar is arrowed. C and D are coronal sections of upper and lower bud-stage first molar tooth germs in an E12.5 embryo.
