RT-PCR of E3.5 blastocysts ex utero, in plated blastocysts, and postgastrulation embryos. p, PCR product; c, negative control (embryos without RT). Ectoplacental cone and Reichert's membrane were removed from 7.5-8 and 10.5 days p.c. embryos. Embryos were separated from the yolk sac (at the junction with the amnion in 7.5-8 dpc. embryos) and transcripts were analyzed in the embryo proper (total is the embryonic part, including heart and liver), in heart (hrt), and in embryos devoid of heart and liver (rest). The sizes of the amplified fragment products are indicated in basepairs.
