• mice exhibit simplified alveoli (focal airspace enlargement) as early as P7 in the peripheral lung
• treatment with the VCP inhibitor, CB5083, improves alveolar morphology without causing overt toxicity
• however, no obvious fibrosis is seen in the lungs and autophagy and ER stress are not altered in alveolar 2 epithelial cells
