behavior/neurological
• mice exhibit impaired performance in the temporal order recognition task, with mice failing to discriminate during the test phase
• treatment of mice with IC87114, an inhibitor of Pik3cd (p110delta), reverses temporal order discrimination deficits
• however, mice exhibit normal object familiarity discrimination and contextual and cued fear conditioning is unaltered
• mice exhibit impaired task performance during the test phase of the object location task, with mutants spending an equal amount of time exploring both objects, however they do not differ in the extent of exploration of the objects during the acquisition and test phases of the task, indicating impaired spatial object location memory
• in the social novelty test, mice exhibit an absence of preference for the chamber containing the novel rather than the familiar mouse, and spend less time sniffing the novel mouse

nervous system
• primary hippocampal neuronal cultures from E18 mutants exhibit increased number of neuritic intersections proximal to the soma and decreased neuritic intersections distal to the som
• primary hippocampal neuronal cultures from E18 mutants exhibit increased primary dendrite number and length and decreased secondary dendrite length
• mature neurons exhibit reduced spine density due to decreased density of filipodia and stubby spines
• prepulse inhibition of a 120 dB acoustic startle stimulus is impaired at all prepulse levels, indicating impaired sensorimotor gating processing
• mice exhibit an increase in lamina V low-threshold spiking interneuron excitability, with firing frequency of low-threshold spiking cells nonadaptive and higher than that in wild-type neurons
• frequency of spontaneous EPSCs in layer V pyramidal neurons is increased
• however frequency of spontaneous EPScs in layer V interneurons (low-threshold spiking, regular spiking, and fast spiking) is normal
• mice exhibit normal hippocampal LTP and basic synaptic transmission in the Schaffer-collateral-CA1 circuit of hippocampal slices
• layer V pyramidal neurons exhibit selective decreases in frequency of mEPSCs, with no change in the frequency of mIPSCs
• mice exhibit attenuated prepulse inhibition of the startle reflex
• treatment of mice with IC87114, an inhibitor of Pik3cd (p110delta), reverses prepulse inhibition deficits
