Respiration defects of the Atf2tm1Glm/Atf2tm1Glm mice

mortality/aging
• die shortly after birth

respiratory system
• presence of meconium in the alveoli, indicating that prenatal aspiration of the amniotic fluid containing meconium occurred
• however, histology shows normal architecture of the lung
• severe respiratory distress resulting in death

embryo
• network of embryonic vessels and maternal sinuses in the placenta is poorly developed and fibrinoid accumulates around the fetal blood vessels
• number of cytotrophoblasts is lower in the labyrinth region of the placenta, although the size of the region is similar to wild-type

homeostasis/metabolism
• marker analysis indicates hypoxia in mutants

cardiovascular system
• network of embryonic vessels and maternal sinuses in the placenta is poorly developed and fibrinoid accumulates around the fetal blood vessels
