reproductive system
• most oocytes have either one or several chromosomes separated from the main group of chromosomes
• oocytes remain alive in the ovaries and progress further in meiosis through germinal vesicle to the second metaphase (MII) stage, however approximately 25% of MII oocytes exhibit chromosomal segregation and chromatin organization abnormalities, with meiotic spindle disruption, scattered chromosomes, parthenogenic activation, and large, seemingly empty or fluid-filled follicles within the cytosol
• some MII oocytes exhibit parthenogenic activation
