immune system
N
• composition of immune cells such as T cells and B cells is normal and the amount of naive (CD44-CD62L+) and memory (CD44+CD62L-) T cells, content of total CD11chi and MHCIIhi dendritic cells (DCs), resident DCs (CD11chi DCs) and migratory DCs (MHCIIhi DCs) in axillary and inguinal lymph nodes are similar to wild-type levels
• recall memory T cell proliferation in EAE-induced mice is decreased after immunization with MOG peptide suggesting that T cell sensitization is impaired
• however, antibody production against MOG peptide is normal
• antigen-presenting ability of dendritic cells is moderately decreased
• however, dendritic cell differentiation is normal
• mice show suppressed development of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), with average disease onset day that is similar to wild-type mice but lower disease score, and suppressed inflammatory cell infiltration and demyelination of the spinal cord, and reduced inflammatory cytokine gene expression at day 10 of EAE induction
• however, cell composition in the spleen and draining lymph nodes after EAE induction are similar to wild-type mice except for a slight decrease in CD19+ B cell percentage at day 16 in spleen and a marginal decrease in MHCII+ CD11c+ DCs in the spleen at day 10 and slight increase in the draining lymph nodes at day 16
