mortality/aging
• all mice that are born alive die shortly after birth
• about 1/3 of mice are dead at E18.5

cardiovascular system
• at E15.5 when outflow tract endocardial cushions in wild-type mice have begun to thin into leaflets, the pulmonary and aortic cushions remain thick indicating defects in valve remodeling
• however, no defects in mitral or tricuspid valves are detected
• misalignment of the aorta is seen occasionally
• in 22% of mice
• seen occasionally
• seen in 1/3 of mice at E18.5
• slightly enlarged at E18.5
• at E18.5
• increase in cell proliferation in the semilunar valves at E14,0 and E15.5
• about 1/3 display catastrophic circulatory failure with a blood filled embryonic sac at E18.5

respiratory system
• most mice born alive gasp for breath

homeostasis/metabolism
• most mice born alive are cyanotic

growth/size/body
• slightly enlarged at E18.5
