• in vivo proliferation of outflow tract (OFT) and atrioventricular (AV) valve mesenchyme and endocardial cells is increased compared to in wild-type mice
• proliferation of mesenchyme and endocardial cells from cushion explants in culture is increased compared to wild-type explants
• however, apoptosis of mesenchyme cells from outflow tract valves is normal
