• group B germ cells (pachytene, diplotene, and secondary spermatocytes) and group C germ cells (round and elongating spermatids) exhibit a 5- and 10-fold higher rate of apoptosis, respectively, than in wild-type mice
• mice exhibit severe oligozoospermia with nearly no mature spermatozoa observed in the apical crypts of Sertoli cells or in the lumen of seminiferous tubules unlike in wild-type mice
• at steps 13 to 15, spermatids are short, irregular, and polygonal unlike in wild-type mice
• spermatid elongation is blocked unlike in wild-type mice
