involves: 129X1/SvJ * C57BL/6
Find Mice Using the International Mouse Strain Resource (IMSR)
Mouse lines carrying:
Id2tm1Mais mutation (1 available); any Id2 mutation (19 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• Background Sensitivity: expected number of homozygotes are born but less than 1% of mice survive post-natal and early post-weaning phase compared to a 10% survivor rate for outbred homozygotes

growth/size/body
• mice are lean and have a low level of fat storage

immune system
• mice have a higher survivor rate when housed under germ free conditions and are given sterile food and antibiotics in the water

endocrine/exocrine glands
• homozygote mothers are unable to nurture pups suggesting a lactation defect

integument
• homozygote mothers are unable to nurture pups suggesting a lactation defect

mortality/aging
• Background Sensitivity: expected number of homozygotes are born but only 10% of mice survive post-natal and early post-weaning phase
• Background Sensitivity: a 10% survival rate is significantly higher than the <1% survivor rate for mice on a 129X1/SvJ * C57BL/6 background

growth/size/body
• mice weigh 27% less than controls

behavior/neurological
• mice have a 70% reduction in wheel activity as measured by wheel rotation per 24 hour period
• this reduced activity was limited to the running wheel since activity measured by a passive infrared beam was similar to controls
• 25% of mice completely lose circadian rhythms under constant dark conditions as evidenced by random wheel activity throughout a 24 hour period
• several mice over 6 months of age develop antiphase diurnal rhythms while maintaining appropriate phase-response curves
• mice entrained to a 12:12 light-dark cycle became active around the transition to lights-off
• mutant mice re-entrain to a 10 hour delay in the dark cycle within 2.46 days compared to 4.75 for controls
• phase shift of mutant mice is significantly greater when transferred to an all light cycle (3.54 hours versus 5.87 hours)
