• despite the absence of 2 serine proteases no changes in neutrophil morphology, peripheral blood populations, transmigration, or chemotactic migration are detected
• reactive oxygen species production is reduced by 30% - 40% in TNF-primed neutrophils in the presence of immune complexes
• however, oxidative burst in response to phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) is not different from controls
• in the reverse passive Arthus reaction model of immune complex-mediated inflammation neutrophil infiltration and influx to sites of immune complex formation is significantly reduced
• impairment is more severe than in mice homozygous null for Ela2 only
