endocrine/exocrine glands
• parallel alignment of epithelial cells is lost in 6- and 12-month old mice
• epithelial cells are hyperplastic; prominent nucleoli are observed in nuclei of hyperplastic epithelial cells at 2, 6, and 12 months
• at 2 months of age, >70% of males display multifocal hyperplasia of dorsal prostate, with hyperplastic epithelial cells filling the prostate glands; hyperplasia is observed at 6 and 12 months in >30% of males
• no hyperplasia is seen in ventral part of prostate
• castrated males do not develop prostatic hyperplasia
